Position OverviewWe are seeking an experienced, creative, and highly organised Design Manager to lead design activities, manage creative and technical design teams, and ensure projects are delivered to a high professional standard, on schedule, and in line with business, brand, technical, and customer requirements.The Design Manager will oversee the design process from initial concepts and project briefs through development, review, approval, production, implementation, and final delivery. The role requires strong creative judgement, project management capabilities, technical understanding, leadership, and communication skills, with the ability to coordinate internal teams, consultants, contractors, suppliers, and senior stakeholders.Key ResponsibilitiesLead and manage design projects from initial concepts through detailed development, approval, production, implementation, and final delivery.Develop design strategies, standards, workflows, processes, templates, and guidelines that support business objectives and maintain consistent quality.Manage and coordinate designers, creative teams, consultants, contractors, agencies, suppliers, and external design partners.Review design concepts, drawings, layouts, specifications, prototypes, presentations, mock-ups, and other design deliverables for quality, accuracy, functionality, and consistency.Translate business objectives, customer requirements, technical specifications, project briefs, and commercial considerations into clear design directions.Prepare and communicate creative briefs, design requirements, project schedules, milestones, deliverables, and approval processes.Conduct regular design reviews and provide constructive feedback to improve creative quality, usability, functionality, technical accuracy, and commercial suitability.Ensure design outputs comply with established brand guidelines, visual standards, technical requirements, project specifications, and stakeholder expectations.Work closely with Marketing, Product, Engineering, Architecture, Construction, Production, Sales, Operations, and senior management teams.Coordinate design activities across multiple projects while monitoring scope, deadlines, resources, dependencies, risks, and project constraints.Evaluate design solutions based on functionality, aesthetics, materials, technology, production requirements, cost, feasibility, sustainability, and user experience.Coordinate with manufacturers, suppliers, fabricators, contractors, and consultants to ensure approved designs can be implemented effectively.Review technical drawings, specifications, samples, prototypes, mock-ups, and production materials before final approval or release.Manage design revisions, version control, approvals, change requests, and documentation throughout the project lifecycle.Establish quality control procedures and ensure design deliverables meet required technical and professional standards.Monitor design-related budgets and costs and support value-engineering, cost optimisation, and resource planning initiatives.Support supplier and consultant selection by reviewing proposals, evaluating capabilities, and providing technical or creative recommendations.Maintain organised design libraries, templates, standards, references, specifications, and project documentation.Conduct research into design trends, customer preferences, competitor activity, emerging technologies, materials, and industry developments.Identify opportunities for innovation, improved functionality, sustainability, efficiency, and enhanced user or customer experience.Ensure designs comply with applicable technical standards, regulatory requirements, accessibility guidelines, safety requirements, and company policies.Organise design meetings, workshops, brainstorming sessions, stakeholder reviews, presentations, and approval meetings.Present design concepts, recommendations, progress updates, and proposed solutions to clients, senior management, and internal stakeholders.Collect and evaluate stakeholder feedback and translate it into practical design improvements while protecting project objectives.Conduct site visits, production reviews, installation inspections, or implementation checks where required.Prepare design reports, project updates, presentations, issue logs, approval records, and other management documentation.Recruit, train, mentor, and develop designers and junior team members while establishing clear performance expectations.Allocate workloads, monitor team performance, identify development needs, and promote a collaborative and innovative design culture.Protect confidential design concepts, drawings, specifications, intellectual property, customer information, and proprietary materials.Identify recurring design and workflow issues and implement continuous improvement initiatives to improve quality, efficiency, and project delivery.RequirementsDiploma or degree in Design, Architecture, Engineering, Industrial Design, Graphic Design, Interior Design, Product Design, or a related discipline.Proven experience in design management, creative leadership, design project management, or a similar senior design position.Strong portfolio demonstrating successful design projects and experience managing projects from concept through final delivery.Strong understanding of design principles, creative processes, design development, technical documentation, quality control, and production requirements.Experience managing multidisciplinary design teams, consultants, agencies, contractors, suppliers, or external creative partners.Proficiency in relevant design and technical software such as Adobe Creative Cloud, AutoCAD, Revit, SolidWorks, SketchUp, Figma, or other industry-specific platforms.Strong project management skills with the ability to manage schedules, budgets, resources, priorities, risks, and multiple projects simultaneously.Excellent communication, presentation, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.Ability to balance creative thinking with technical, commercial, operational, and customer requirements.Strong attention to detail with excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.Ability to interpret technical information and communicate design requirements effectively to both creative and non-creative stakeholders.Experience coordinating with manufacturers, suppliers, contractors, consultants, and other external partners.Knowledge of relevant industry standards, regulatory requirements, sustainability principles, and safety considerations.Strong leadership and mentoring abilities with a proactive and collaborative management style.Ability to perform effectively in a fast-paced environment while managing changing priorities and tight deadlines.
